I started this journey because I learned how to dream, to set goals, to define ambitions that truly moved my soul.
One of those dreams was to learn languages and be able to express myself to the world, without borders.
That’s how Viajando en Idiomas was born —
a space where I share my self-taught language learning journey in a real and transparent way,
and where I build a community with people who also dream of traveling, connecting with other cultures,
and transforming their lives through language.

It all started at home.
I had already decided to start learning English, but I was still unsure whether I should share that journey publicly or keep it private, as something personal. I was torn between putting myself out there or just moving forward “confidentially.”
But one day, after thinking it through calmly, I told myself:
“You know what, Ángeles? Let’s do it. Let’s share this with the world in an honest way. Maybe there’s someone out there also facing this challenge, someone who needs a spark of motivation, a hand saying ‘you’re not alone.’ Let’s show the process, unfiltered. And if along the way we’re able to help someone… great!”
That’s how, since 2021, I began documenting my experience on social media, showing with total transparency what it really means to learn a language on your own. The good, the hard, the parts almost no one talks about.
After English, I asked myself what the next language would be. French? Italian? No. Something inside me said it would be Turkish. And then, as I imagined that adventure of words, cultures, and discoveries, I knew I needed a name that would bring together everything this project meant to me.
You see, for a long time I was someone who found it hard to dream. It was difficult for me to have goals or to envision anything beyond the present. But when I decided to let God into my life, something changed. I began to dream, to visualize the future, to revisit forgotten dreams… and with them came back my desire to explore the world, to connect with people through language.
That’s when I realized this project wasn’t just about languages. It was also about dreaming, traveling, and sharing.
Then it all became clear:
Viajando en Idiomas wasn’t just a name — it was my way of living this new stage of my life.
Learning a language is like solving a mystery:
you need a goal, search for clues, connect the pieces, make mistakes, fix them, try again… and celebrate every discovery!
That’s why I like to say I’m your “Partner in Crime of Languages”, because every language has its mystery, and if you have a partner to solve it with — even better!

Back then, I only spoke Spanish (and the verb to be from school! 😂). Today, my language journey looks like this:
Here you can see my reaction to my first long conversation speaking (or trying to speak) in English.
Spoiler: it wasn’t perfect, but it was real.
Mistakes included, because that’s also part of the journey.
Besides learning languages in a self-taught way, I’ve also experienced them in real and diverse contexts. Volunteering has been one of the most powerful ways to keep practicing English (and a little bit of other languages), improve personal skills, and discover new opportunities.
Since 2023, I’ve been a volunteer at Get Up and Go Colombia, an NGO based in Popayán that connects tourism, bilingualism, and social entrepreneurship in areas affected by armed conflict. There, I’ve supported tours, conversation clubs, and currently serve as a digital spokesperson.
In 2024, I joined AFS, an international organization that promotes intercultural learning. I participate in the communications area and as a contact person, working with volunteers from different parts of the world and young people in exchange programs.
I’ve also served in the worship ministry of my church (IPC Jesucristo es la Solución), where both national and international connections have emerged. In 2024, I even joined a digital conversation club led by a sister church abroad (Church at the Park). Although I’m no longer part of that space, it was another door that opened while I was looking to grow and connect.
Each experience has reminded me that when you move, language becomes more than just a tool — it turns into a bridge.
If you ever see me on the street… better not follow me 🤣
But do say hi! And if possible, let’s have a bilingual chat 😄
Now, if you’d like to follow this journey more closely — see the progress, the stumbles, the lessons, and laugh a little with all the attempts — you’re more than welcome!
